Jay-Z Back On Top

Jay-Z’s comeback album, Kingdom Come is expected to break first-week sales for 2006 and will land at number one on the charts by next week.
In the midst of whirlwind promotion including the Hanger Tour, which included seven shows in less than 24 hours in Philadelphia, New York, Washington DC, New Jersey, Chicago, Atlanta, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Jay-Z will be seeing the benefits of his work when next week’s charts are released.
The sales of his latest album are projected to reach 850,000 units by next week according to hitsdailydouble.com. He is expected to beat out the old record for the year held by the Rascal Flatts.
In related Jay-Z news, he has recently become the number one on-demand artist on Clear Channel Radio, achieving 600,000 plays over the past week, on more than 220 station websites.

Ying Yang Twins Album Leak

The Ying Yang Twins are gearing up for the release of their fifth album, Chemically Imbalanced, out Tuesday, November 28 however, fans can get an advance listen on MTV: The Leak this week.
D-Roc and Kaine are also enjoying their rank amongst the top ten Hip-Hop artists on myspace, where they have also been sharing their music with their 500,000 (and growing) friends. Their first single, “Dangerous,” is a collaboration with Wyclef Jean, Jerry Wonder and Mr. Collipark, and they are preparing to shoot a video for their second single, “Jigglin.”
“People try to look at us as one-dimensional artists that only speak upon the strip club,” Kaine told sources. “We really have a better variety of things we speak about that pertains to normal life.”
Originally dubbed 2 Live Crew, in early promotional material, the duo decided to change the title.

Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 11/19/2006

This week, the question on everyone’s mind is just how well would Doctor’s Advocate do. Well The Game’s album proved to be a resounding success on the charts. Doctor’s Advocate demolished the competition by selling over 358k copies in its first week. Easily taking the #1 spot. Although it isn’t the 600k that The Documentary opened up with, it still proves to be quite successful considering how CDs aren’t selling quite like they used to.
Any other week, Akon would have taken the #1 spot as Konvicted sold a shade under 285k in its opening week. It still garners Akon with the #2 spot which, behind Game, isn't bad at all. The third debut on the charts which did fairly well is Fat Joe’s Me Myself & I album. While moving over to indie label Koch, the album still managed to sell just over 60k in its first week on the charts and landing at #14. Considering how little marketing Koch does, this has to be measured as quite an achievement.
Elsewhere on the charts, Beyonce’s B’Day has had a resurgence on the charts as the album sold 68k on the strength of “Irreplaceable” putting it at #9 this week. John Legend inches closer to Gold status with the impressive Once Again clocking in at #12 with 60k sold (469k overall). Jim Jones’ Hustler’s P.O.M.E. continues to do well moving another 42k (150k overall) and sitting pretty at #25.
What started a good week on the charts for Hip Hop will continue next week as Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg look to outdo The Game. Will it happen?
